Standard designed the flagship store for home goods retailer The Citizenry in the SoHo’s historic Cast Iron District.
The existing loft space at Crosby and Grand, characterized by 14 ft tall ceilings, large cast iron columns, and tall street facing windows was re-imagined as a white walled gallery for The Citizenry’s handmade products. Standard proposed minimal, intentional interventions. The walls and wood ceiling were painted to create a white box, and Red Oak planks, consistent with the warm hues of The Citizenry’s home goods was installed on the floor. Within the white volume, intimate custom maple display cabinets contrast the scale of the space.
Opposite the window walls, large white planes, and casework with intricate wood slat detailing frames the collection of natural fabrics, rugs, baskets and pillows made worldwide by artisans.
A gabled niche was created to display bedding, rugs are sliding out behind floor to ceiling display walls, and towels are displayed around a marble vanity. A wall of maple cubbies, sized to display pillows, segments the space and creates an open living room around an expansive sofa designed by Standard.
A curated collection of decorative hand assembled light fixtures compliment the marble sales counter, bedding niche and flank the windows. Modular maple pedestals create displays in the center.
